Find the Medicare plan tailored for your needs.
Medicare has four main parts: Part A covers hospital care, Part B covers doctor visits and outpatient care, Part C is Medicare Advantage (a private plan alternative), and Part D covers prescription drugs.
Moving to Utah triggers a Special Enrollment Period, giving you a window to join a Medicare Advantage or Part D drug plan in your new area. Your original Medicare coverage, Parts A and B, follows you anywhere in the country.
To check if your doctor accepts Medicare, call their office and ask directly. To check if they're in-network for a specific plan, use that plan's online provider directory or call the plan's member services number. These are two different questions with different answers.
Plans that include University of Utah Health in their provider networks are your best starting point. Regence BlueCross and some other carriers contract with U of U Health, but you should verify network status for your specific providers before enrolling.
Medicare Advantage plans generally cover out-of-network emergency care, but non-emergency care at an out-of-network hospital may cost significantly more or may not be covered at all, depending on your plan type.
