Yes, Medicare Part A can be backdated up to 6 months when you sign up late. If that happens, your Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions during that backdated period become a problem with the IRS.
The most important variables are your health needs, your doctors and hospitals, your budget for premiums versus out-of-pocket costs, and whether you want flexibility or structure in how you access care.
It depends. Federal law gives disabled Medicare beneficiaries under 65 some Medigap rights, but Utah does not go as far as some other states in protecting those rights. Your options are more limited than they would be at 65.
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover most prescription drugs. Drug coverage comes from Medicare Part D, which is a separate plan you add on, or from a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage.
Monthly premium is just one part of what you pay. Deductibles, copays, drug costs, and network limits can end up costing far more than a low premium saves you.
Utah has 14 Medicare Advantage plans for 2026.Availability varies by county.
