Medicare Supplement Plan G

Medicare Supplement

Turning 65
Plan Type Code:
SUPP-G

Comprehensive coverage except Part B deductible. Most popular Medigap plan.

Medigap Plan G is the most comprehensive Medicare Supplement plan available to new enrollees. It covers everything except the Part B deductible ($257 in 2026). That means once you've met your deductible for the year, you generally pay nothing out of pocket for Medicare-covered services — no hospital deductible, no skilled nursing coinsurance, no Part B excess charges, and up to $50,000 in foreign travel emergency coverage.

Plan G became the most popular Medigap plan after Plan F was closed to new enrollees in 2020. The only difference between G and F is that F covered the Part B deductible. At $257 per year, the math usually favors Plan G: premiums are lower, and you pay the deductible yourself rather than bundling it into a higher monthly cost.

Plan G works best for people who want predictable, mostly zero out-of-pocket costs and are willing to pay a higher monthly premium for that certainty. It's particularly valuable for people with chronic conditions who use Medicare heavily, people who value the ability to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, or people who spend extended time in multiple states.

When shopping Plan G in Utah, you'll find offerings from carriers like Regence BlueCross, Mutual of Omaha, Aetna, and Humana. The benefits are identical across all of them — Plan G is standardized by federal law — so the only variables are premium, premium increase history, and customer service reputation. Getting quotes from at least three carriers before enrolling can save you hundreds per year.
